Custom Cycling Jackets & Windbreakers

Custom cycling jackets are windbreakers, thermal jackets and rain shells made in your club, team or event's colours and logo — fully sublimated, built on the same jackets DTR sells at retail. The jacket is the outermost layer, which means two things for a club: it's the piece that gets worn when the weather is at its worst, and it's the piece that appears in every photo taken on a cold or wet day. From five pieces per design, with free design support and a typical six-to-eight-week turnaround. This guide covers the jacket types you can order, what matters in each, and how the process works.

The jacket types, and what each is for

"Jacket" covers several different garments, and clubs usually need to pick by climate:

  • Windbreakers (wind jackets) — light, packable shells that block wind chill and stuff into a jersey pocket. The most-used jacket in most clubs, because the wind, not the temperature, is what makes riders cold.
  • Water-resistant / rain jackets — for wet climates, shedding showers and road spray while still breathing enough to ride hard in.
  • Thermal winter jackets — insulated, usually with a windproof front and a brushed inner, for genuinely cold riding.

A windbreaker is the piece most clubs order first. A thermal jacket is what a club in a cold climate adds. Both can carry the same design.

What matters in a custom jacket

Whatever the type, the same things decide whether it gets worn:

  • Windproofing on the front and shoulders, where the wind actually hits you.
  • Breathability, so you don't soak the inside climbing — a jacket that traps sweat is as cold as no jacket at all.
  • A close, non-flapping cut over a jersey. Flapping is noisy, slow, and the fastest way to make a rider leave the jacket at home.
  • Packability, for the lighter shells — a jacket that won't fit in a pocket won't be carried.

Custom changes the design, not the build: these are the same jackets DTR sells at retail.

Why the jacket matters for a club

A jacket is the layer that ends up in the photos on the days that actually look dramatic — the cold start, the wet sportive, the winter club run. It's also the piece a rider keeps longest, because a good jacket lasts years.

For sponsors, the back panel and chest are the visible surfaces here, and unlike a jersey there are no rear pockets to interrupt the back. If a club runs a headline sponsor, the jacket back is a large, uncluttered space.

Designing a jacket

Two practical points.

First, keep the design bold and simple. A jacket is seen in poor light and bad weather, and often half-zipped or with a rider hunched over the bars — fine detail is lost. Blocks of high-contrast colour survive; intricate linework doesn't.

Second, think about visibility. A club jacket is worn in winter, in the wet, and in low light, so bright colours and reflective-friendly design earn their keep. This is the one piece where being seen is a genuine safety consideration, not just a branding one.

How the process works

Share a brief — colours, logo files, sponsor marks, and a rough idea. DTR's team builds two to three design routes on real jacket templates, you review, and most orders are approved within a couple of rounds. Nothing goes to production until you sign off, and your design is saved on file, so reorders need no redesign.

Production runs in the same factory as the retail line, invoicing is on agreed terms, and shipping goes worldwide — to one address or split across members.

Minimum order, turnaround and pricing

The minimum is five pieces per design — five of the same jacket design across a mix of sizes meets it. Turnaround is typically six to eight weeks from approved design to delivery, though it varies by season, so confirm the current lead time when you enquire — worth doing early if you want jackets before winter. Pricing is quote-based, built around the styles, quantities and finish you choose.

FAQ

What custom cycling jackets can we order? Windbreakers (light, packable wind shells), water-resistant and rain jackets, and thermal winter jackets — all fully sublimated in your colours and logo, and all built on DTR's retail jackets.

Which jacket should a club order first? Usually a windbreaker. Wind chill, not air temperature, is what makes riders cold, and a packable wind shell gets used across most of the year. Clubs in cold climates then add a thermal jacket in the same design.

Can we get windbreakers and thermal jackets in the same design? Yes — the same club design can run across windproof, water-resistant and thermal jackets, so the kit stays consistent whatever the weather.

Does a custom windbreaker pack into a jersey pocket? Yes — the light wind shells are packable, which is much of the point: a jacket that can't be carried won't be there when the weather turns.

What's the minimum order for custom jackets? Five pieces per design across a mix of sizes, which keeps custom jackets workable for a small club rather than only large orders.

The bottom line

The jacket is the layer your club wears when conditions are worst — and the one that shows up in every cold, wet, memorable photo. DTR's custom jackets are the same windproof, breathable, packable jackets it sells at retail, in your colours and logo. Windbreakers, water-resistant shells and thermal winter jackets, men's and women's, from five pieces per design. Request a custom quote and DTR will take it from your brief.
